The very first zombie movie ever made was White Zombie released in 1932 staring horror master Bela Lugosi. The zombies in this movie are nothing like the zombies seen on screen today. These zombies follow the rules of Haitian voodoo practices. A master (voodoo priest, mad scientist, supernatural villain, etc.) used mind control to convert innocent people into mindless zombies. These zombies are manipulated by their master’s hypnotic spell making them emotionless slaves who are willing to do their masters bidding to the death. It was a simple and effective concept, but nevertheless, it was a concept destined for change by future filmmakers.

Zombies in the most famous of all zombie movies, The Night of the Living Dead, move this way. They most commonly walk in straight lines towards noise or something that they sense, smell, or see. There are some cases where they just walk in a seemingly random direction and it might be impossible to tell where or why they are walking that way. I believe that if there is no prospective food to eat, zombies go into a sort of state of wandering in which their steps in one direction or another will potentially lead them towards more noises, sights, or smells that indicate food.

They often move in packs, but it is anyone’s guess why they exhibit pack behavior. A leader of any given pack is not the leader because it displays leadership qualities, but simply because it is in the front. The “leader” may sense something up ahead and begin a determined walk or give a signaling moan or groan and so the rest of the pack follows. The most important thing to remember is that when there is one zombie there are probably more nearby. Their common goal, of finding human flesh and organs, brings them into a common understanding with one another. The motivations and activities of a hunting zombie or zombie pack will be covered in a later article, but I think it is important for those who wish to survive a zombie outbreak to understand as much about the living dead’s motives as they can.

One of the major objectives of this website is to produce a fictional zombie infested world. This world will have its own set of exclusive zombie rules. The website will allow the owners of this website, (and visitors) to produce fun fictional stories, artwork and games based on this imaginary world, which can then be enjoyed and expanded on by others. This website will also have all the normal zombie/horror movie and video game reviews as well as a forum and WordPress blogging options.

We started this site because we love zombies, not because we expect to be the next Internet billionaires, so please be patient with us as we develop new and enjoyable content. At the end of the day we want this website to be about having fun, interacting and enjoying a world of zombies with other horror fans.

The following is a zombie interrogation that occurred in the 1985 movie The Return of the Living Dead. The zombie was torn in half and captured when it attacked a man through a window opening in a funeral parlor where a group of people had been trapped. The imprisoned zombie was strapped to a medical gurney and questioned by mortician Ernie Kaltenbrunner.

Ernie: You can hear me?
Zombie Replies: Yesssss.
Ernie: Why do you eat people?
Zombie Replies: Not people, brains.
Ernie: Brains only?
Zombie Replies: Yessss.
Ernie: Why?
Zombie Groans Out: THE PAIN!
Ernie: What about the pain?
Zombie Replies: The pain of being dead.
Ernie speaks to Burt Wilson and “Spider” who are watching this interrogation.
Ernie: Hurts to be dead.
Zombie: I can feel myself rotting.
Ernie bends back over the zombie and continues his questioning.
Ernie: Eating brains, how does that make you feel?
Zombie Replies: It makes the pain go away.

The interrogation is over. Ernie, Burt and Spider move to the hallway to discuss how to kill the zombies. Burt’s conclusion is, “You can’t kill those mothers, they are already dead.” Later in the story the captive zombie’s hunger returns and she beings to yell out, “Brains! Brains! Brains! Brain! Brains!”

The question I set out to answer was blunt: Will zombies rise up and destroy the world?

Answering this question would be no simple task. It was not a matter of gathering facts or reading material, but of actually predicting the future! For this task I chose Chasmodai, the spirit of the moon. Because who can divine the future better than the spirit of the moon?

I had the stage set. All my tools were ready. And after an oration that lasted nearly 5 hours, I began to see a faint outline of something foggy within the circle. The presence became very strong. At last, Chasmodai had arrived!
